JD Webcast #4: Summary & Media

  Thursday 21 August 2008 - 13:29:13 | kf02

Last night Jon was on the studio cam by himself in the wee hours of the morning again from about midnight Pacific Time until like 3:30 AM.

His studio contains a stuffed squirrel nicknamed "Biff" that has become the unofficial mascot. The cam is now focused on him while Jon is not in the studio.

He played a wealth of samples and worked on recording more keyboards. At one point he showed off some of his guitar collection including one-of-a-kind 7 & 8 strings made of 1 solid piece of wood.

I was video & audio recording the whole thing but my computer started freezing up and I only got the audio from the first couple hours. After that I just recorded a short video of him working on keyboards which you can watch below.

August 12 (Demo) - better quality
Basic Needs (Demo) - better quality
Loc's Theme Song
Russia (Demo) - Cory's rip w/ adjusted volume level
Untitled Demo w/ vocals
Percussion & Keyboard samples - 5 preliminary samples

I think he was working on Russia near the end but I couldn't quite keep my eyelids open by then.

I am gonna put off HQ Audio of the Week for a few days. Between these new demos from Jon and Layla/This Broken Soul it's been a very fruitful week for audio. Bandwidth reasons too.

Miles Blog's about JD and Kornspace

  Wednesday 20 August 2008 - 06:54:11 | red UFO

Well. I know what you've all been wondering; "Where the hell is that damn Miles!?!"I promised a show before I went on tour, and I'm sorry I couldn't oblige. I left on back-to-back tours, and am actually writing this on the plane on my way to a short East Coast run. So I'm gonna knock it out in bulleted form....here's the good stuff:

*First, a 'save the date' for all you fans of my solo project. September 7th.
ONE Los Angeles show coming at The Kress, Hollywood's new place to be, due to their good food, 360 degree view of Los Angeles from the roof, and of course, excellent taste in music :) The night will be sponsored by Hennessy and I will be on the 3rd floor all to myself. I will send out an official e-mail blast when I find out the final word on getting in AND up to the third floor.
This show is gonna be sweaty and fun! Plus you'll get to hear some of the new sounds I've been working on. If we're lucky, Hennessy may even provide my favorite Henn drink exclusively for the third floor!

*Recently returned from major European tour with Jonathan Davis opening up for him, and performing with him and the amazing solo band, the SFA's. Then we did a quick stop at Ozzfest. Working with JD is kick-ass as always! We continue writing for his new record which is starting to shape as a very eclectic mix of styles with one hell of a groove underneath it all. And here's a special treat for the fans of my work with JD - periodically check out Click Here
when I return from my current tour, we'll be streaming the recording process live!
*Currently (literally RIGHT NOW) on the way to the east coast to begin a mini-tour to promote
Terrence Howard's debut CD. Some of you may know that I was the co-producer and arranger for the record. The entire process was interesting and fun! Now it's time to go out and start pushing it for the U.S. market. There are quite a few Television appearances and shows from NYC to Philly, Virginia, Atlanta. (Los Angeles dates pending).
If you wanna come to any of the Terrence Howard shows have a look at the tour dates on his myspace page. You can buy tickets and everything from there. Click Here
The record is slated to come out September 2nd on Sony/Columbia and will be called "Shine Through It" which is also the title of one of the 4 songs I wrote with Terrence during this process. I'm proud of the record and hope you give it a listen.

*Finished a film score for an exciting and important documentary series called "EVE", about young women, particularly teens in crisis across the United States, produced and directed by Tegan Summer. I'm very proud of my work on this project. The subject matter is one that I think a great many people will benefit from, having their eyes opened up to exactly what young women are faced with today. Particularly parents of young girls, who now more than ever in this country have obstacles and vultures surrounding their upbringings like never before. My business partner Barbara Sealy brought me in on this project as it coincides with a non profit organization called Creative Counseling Network, whom I am a mentor for and immense advocate of. You will definitely be hearing from me about where and when this will be airing. We may even arrange a little viewing party, with some music for all of you????

*Working on a couple of side projects that some of my favorite people, the Kornspacers, are probably gonna dig. I'm hoping to finish these recordings and post them sometime around October 1st. I hope.......

*That's all for now. Thank you for your continued support! I'll keep making the music for you, as long as you're there to listen! More updates soon..

Another Head interview, ya know?

  Tuesday 19 August 2008 - 15:59:56 | red UFO

bigmusicgeek.com has a pretty cool interview with Brian Head Welch.

Todd: What are your current touring plans? I’m assuming you’ll be touring as much as possible in support of Save Me From Myself…

Brian: “Right now, we’ve got an in-store record store tour. In September, were gonna just go around and get the word out and see the reaction from people. Then, hopefully, we’ll be able to get something together and get out on the road. There’s nothing set in stone yet. I’m just takin’ things one thing at a time. I just got done with my first video for “Flush”... I’m just takin’ things one day at a time right now. I’m lookin’ forward to playin’ again, though. It’s been three and a half years. …I’m just goin’ with the flow and kinda lettin’ things happen. I’m not tryin’ to be anxious for anything anymore. I really live by faith, ya know? Two years ago, things looked hopeless at some points. When I was doin’ the record, I was like ‘Man, this thing’s never gonna get out’. Then I learned to just go with the flow, ya know? Things just kinda fall into place now. …I look forward to rockin’ out again and singin’. I went through a little intimidation and nervousness because I was never a lead singer in front of a crowd, but now I look forward to facin’ it head-on and havin’ fun with it, ya know? As the album gets closer to the date when it’s comin’ out, I’m starting to get more and more excited about the subject of touring. …Towards the end of Korn, all I did was do drugs, so I had a bad time on tour. …But I’m a new man, now so I’m excited.”

Todd: Looking back, how did your time in the studio recording Save Me From Myself differ from your experiences in the studio with Korn? Were they more or less frustrating?

Brian: “I’d say both. In the beginning, I was stressed out, but I was having fun. I was goin’ through challenges, ya know? When you do methamphetamine, it messes with your emotions and mind and stuff. …Partying for that many years…it’s like a kid goin’ to the candy store every day. Sooner or later, he’s gonna end up sick and unhealthy, ya know? …After time passes, you start to become more normal again, but I had a lot of fits or rage. I would break things in the studio if things didn’t go my way, so that had to go. But the times when things were goin’ really good were fun. While I was going through those challenges, I could take time off. I would take like even six months off, ya know? In 2006, I hadn’t done music for a while and just wanted to take a break. It was cool to do that because there was no pressure. There was no one tellin’ me ‘Dude, you gotta get into the studio and finish this. We’ve got a deadline’. There was no deadline. It was just whatever happened, ya know? Everything happened the way it was supposed to because I’m a new man now. I’m totally calm. When things don’t do my way, I don’t freak out. …I’m just a new person and it feels great.”

Follow the Leader 10th Anniversary

  Monday 18 August 2008 - 15:39:48 | kf02

In addition to KornSpace's birthday, we have another milestone to celebrate.

10 years ago today Korn's most successful album to date was released. Debuting at #1 on the Billboard Top 200, Follow the Leader has sold more than 9 million copies worldwide and is currently certified 5x Platinum in the United States.

The album garnished the hugely successful singles Freak on a Leash and Got the Life appearing at the top of countless charts. The unforgettable Freak on a Leash music video won 2 MTV Video Music Awards for Best Editing and Best Rock Video.

Follow the Leader was many fans' first time hearing Korn and is credited with opening the flood gates for a new genre of music labeled "nu-metal."

We should pause in recognition of the album that is the reason many of us have the oppurtunity to be fans.

Kornspace Turned 2!

  Monday 18 August 2008 - 15:01:57 | red UFO

About two years and 3 weeks ago ago Kornspace was born out of frustration most the fansites back then sucked. The official Korn website was never updated often enuff to keep fans happy so several Korn fans made this place to hang out in the most interactive website we could make.

Over the past two years the admins past and present worked their asses off keeping the site updated with fresh and accurate information about all the things happening in the land of KoRn. Thanks so much to everyone who helped make this site what it is today and all the fans who shared there Korn media and experiences with the rest of the fans. Without you guys this place would be nothing.

Updates: The Chatbox was updated today with new software. You no longer need to refresh the site to see new comments, it automatically does that now, like the Terminator.

Image/Media gallery is back! Our previous gallery got hacked and we've found a suitable replacement and loaded up 395 photos on it. You can submit Korn photos and media you think should be on KS and one of the admins will approve and post them.

Allowed uploaded file types bmp|jpg|jpeg|gif|png|swf|wmv|mpg|mpeg|avi|divx|mp3|wma|mov|rm|flv

So lets see what the hell happens next!

Once again, thank you admins, thank you Korn fans and most of all thanks to Korn, their road crew, and managers who keep turning out the best heavy music in the world year after year.

Jonathan Davis memories of Dimebag Darrell

  Saturday 16 August 2008 - 17:14:59 | red UFO

During this past weekend's one-day Ozzfest in Dallas, Chris Steffen of RollingStone.com spoke to members of Korn, System Of A Down and Ozzy Osbourne about their memories of Pantera and Damageplan guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, who was killed onstage at an Ohio concert in 2004.

Jonathan Davis (Korn): "The shit he did, that's what got me into heavy music — 'Vulgar Display of Power'. I was only into Eighties music before that. The heaviest thing I listened to was Skinny Puppy and Ministry, but that wasn't metal. When I heard 'Vulgar Display', I was like, 'Holy shit, what the fuck is this?' The first time I ever saw them live, before Korn was even signed, me and Fieldy [Korn bassist] went, and it was Pantera and Sepultura at Irving Meadows in L.A. They came out, started the first song, the curtain dropped, and me and Fieldy just started crying. We looked at each other and we had tears in our eyes because it was so fucking intense and heavy and sick."
